  Tennis Drills

One of the most important things for all good tennis players is drills, drills, and more drills. The old adage “practice makes perfect” may be old and trite, but it’s also very true. No matter what age or skill level you are, tennis drills should never fall by the wayside (yes, even old pros need to practice)! So, what purpose do all those tennis drills serve?

One of the most obvious benefits of tennis drills is precision. Learning to control the ball and controlling your shot depends on technique and practice. Drills can be used to practice particular shots and improve your aim. Hitting the tennis ball is only the first part, consistency and the ability to send the ball where you aim it is just as important to keep you in control. Practicing tennis drills allows you to work on one shot. This is especially important in tennis drills for beginners, who are just starting to learn their shots.

Beginners should focus on the basics, and tennis drills for beginners will help them to do that. They need to learn the basics and the motions of the swings must become second nature to them. As you concentrate on that one shot, you will be able to focus on the differences in your tennis technique that cause the differences in your outcomes. Tennis drills force you to a movement until it is imbedded not just in your mind, but in your arms, hands, and legs. When playing against an opponent, you need to be able to call upon your swing and execute it without needing to think about it. And the only way to do that is to create muscle memory. And the only way to do that is tennis drills.

Now you cannot win every tennis match with just one swing or shot in your arsenal, no matter how good that shot may be. So remember that tennis drills are also a chance for you to learn something new. You don’t want the first time you try a drop volley to be on the court. Tennis drills give you the opportunity to practice, improve, and expand your abilities. Tennis drills for beginners are especially important for this reason. Don’t waste the opportunity by not drilling and practicing. I realize that it’s not always as much fun, but the skills you learn will serve you on the court.

Another benefit of drills is one that all players can enjoy, whether you’re competitive or just playing for fun, and that, most simply, is for the physical work-out. Tennis drills are exercise, plain and simple. Besides burning calories, they build strength and stamina, which is important on the court. Although serious players should not abandon their own exercise regimes, drills allow you another perspective. Tennis drills allow you to see the result of your strength and to feel your weaknesses.

Now, I know that beyond an opportunity to learn something new and exciting, tennis drills don’t sound like a whole lot of fun, but they are very important. They require concentration and hard work. It’s important to practice concentration and the drills are a great way to do that, especially for beginners. Tennis drills should allow your muscles to learn the game so that you can concentrate on your opponent, strategy, and the game as a whole. Tennis drills allow you to learn and remember the basics so you can go beyond them. So, don’t forget to keep practicing!
