Use Your Head to Improve Your Tennis Tennis

Improving your tennis game is all about your mental capabilities and understanding of how the game of tennis is played. Many a great tennis player has won games based on their ability to psyche out their opponent before ever stepping on the court. Moreover, while the ability to improve tennis skills has to do with practice, if you do not have confidence in your strengths (particularly your best shots), then you will not follow through on everything you have learned in practice.

Working with an instructor is one way to improve at tennis, and watching professionals and instructional videos is another; however, the number one way to improve your game is to practice, practice, and practice!

In the game of tennis, practice really does make for a more confident, well-rounded player. The key to an effective practice is to go through a set of drills on a variety of shots, including your serve, forehand, backhand, returns, etc. Whether you are practicing with human opponents or just spending time serving on an empty court, the more you physically invest time in developing your game, the better your playing will become. If you are so inclined, you can have an instructor watch you practice to be sure you are effectively doing so. Much of the time, everything you do in practice translates to what you will do at game time, so make the most of your game every time you hit the court is essential to improving at tennis.
