Fitness and tennis go hand in hand. Many people choose tennis fitness as a way to lose weight or just otherwise get in shape. This has a lot to do with the fact that during the game of tennis, you spend time cultivating your arms through various shots and running around the court, which gives you a cardiovascular workout. Here are some additional tips to beef up your tennis fitness and ensure a good workout every time:

• Warm up: Many players do this by doing a few laps around the court. You might consider jogging around three or four times before you begin playing to warm up your legs. You could even do some sprints up and down the length of the court for an even more intense warm-up.

• Work out your arms: Use the opportunity to practice your swing as a chance to really build up the arms in your muscles. The best way to do this is by doing a set of repetitions of each swing to work out different muscles in your arms. For example, doing three sets of forehand swings at 10 times in each set will build up your forearms. Doing three sets of ten backhand swings will help build your upper arms. Isolating different parts of your body, depending on the swing, will enhance your overall tennis fitness workout.

If you are unsure of how well this workout will work for your fitness goals, consult with a tennis instructor. He or she can give you an idea of how to incorporate tennis into your fitness routine to get the maximum benefit from fitness and tennis.
