  Beginner Drills

Tennis drills have as much to do with preparing for the game on a mental level as they do for enhancing your physical ability. From learning how to persevere through a game to strengthening your level of concentration, drills are a perfect way to practice playing the best game you can play.

The most well-rounded tennis players will admit that they are at their best on the court when they are completely in the “zone.” Once distracted with thoughts of anything else, their game is almost instantly worse.

The tennis drills for beginners listed below not only will help your overall game but, like the professionals, help keep you in the “zone.” It’s important to note that in addition to these tennis drills, engaging in some practice matches is key to your success on the court.

Tennis serve drills: Divide the service court into two halves and have the person serving the ball serve into each half of the court from left to right. It’s important to serve four serves, two in each two in each half of the court. The purpose of this drill is to help the player learn how to keep focus on their serve while keeping their mind free of extraneous thoughts.

Warm up drills: These drills are important because they help your joints to properly warm up before you begin your full game. Start with a game of mini tennis, in which you serve under hand only and approach the net. There should only be touch and placement in this drill. This will help your brain to begin focusing solely on tracking the ball, hand-eye coordination, balance and timing calculations. This is the best way to warm up your muscles.
